A Mixed-Up Wish

David Fox

There once was a prince
who wished for a princess
when all his oats were sowed
but he wasn't very careful—
she turned out to be a toad.

It was because he was selfish
That he said, "What's this?"
To which the gods answered:
"Ignorance is bliss."
